[Class 98 (ii).] In addition to the toggle or hand-operated pressure platen C, an auxiliary clamping member F is provided for clamping the negative, which can either be coupled to the pressure platen to rise and fall with it, or decoupled so as to permanently clamp the negative. The auxiliary clamp F has a projecting flange F<1> underlying one edge of the platen C and on which one edge of the sensitized paper rests, so that when the clamp F rises with the platen it lifts and thus ejects the print. The clamp F is mounted on the same shaft C2 as the platen C, is normally urged by a spring F<2> into clamping position, and is raised by the platen by the action of a notched sleeve on the shaft C<2> acting on a movable pawl G. This pawl is movably mounted on the clamp and can be moved into inoperative position when it is desired to keep the negative permanently clamped for making repeat prints. The platen C is connected to the togglemechanism by a removable spring bolt C<1> and the platen and clamp F are mounted on a plate D which is detachably hinged at D<1> to the frame A and held in position by turn buttons D<3>. The plate D has a transparent film support E, and for printing from film strips of different widths the plate is also fitted with adjustable guides E<1>, connected by parallel links, and determining the effective printing width of the plate E. The guides El have masking flanges E<2> on which the edges of the film rest, and adjustable end-masks E<5>, E' are also fitted on the plate D.
