Abstract
345,100. Railway vehicle undercarriages. WILLIAMS, E., 465, Handsworth Road, and COOK, A. E., 4, Priory Place, Sharrow, both in Sheffield. March 26, 1930, No. 9599. [Classes 103 (vi).] In a railway, tramway or like vehicle of the kind in which negotiation of curves is facilitated by permitting the axles a lateral displacement relative to the truck frame C<1>, the latter is supported on cup-shaped bearings G on the axle-boxes B through the medium of stirrup members A, which are interposed between the axle-boxes and truck frame horns C and pivot on rollers F in the cups G and at their lower ends carry a bridge-piece D which forms an abutment for the springs E supporting the truck frame. Lateral or rolling movement of the rollers F is permitted by making the cup-shaped bearing-surfaces on the axle-boxes B and stirrups A of greater radius than the radius of the rollers. The lower ends of the stirrups A are fitted with adjustable nuts H, between which are interposed convex washers J and an intermediate rubber washer I, Fig. 2, subjected to a strong initial compression. Rocking washers K, Fig. 3, are disposed between the lower ends of the springs E and the outer ends of the bridge-piece D.
