Abstract
Horse and like shoes are made of a composition prepared by vulcanizing a mixture of rubber and cellulose, preferably in the form of wood-flour and in such proportion as to retain some of the characteristics of wood in the vulcanized product. In an example, the composition contains 2 parts of rubber, 20 parts of wood-flour, and 6 parts of sulphur. Pads of unvulcanized rubber or rubber composition or substitute may be inserted in recesses in the shoe prior to vulcanization. If desired metal pieces may be fitted at the toe and sides and secured thereto during vulcanization by perforated flanges entering the thickness of the shoe. For clovenhoofed animals, the shoe is made in two parts which may be connected by flexible material.ALSO:Horse and like shoes are made of a composition prepared by vulcanizing a mixture of rubber and cellulose, preferably in the form of wood-flour and in such proportion as to retain some of the characteristics of wood in the vulcanized product.
