[Class 131.] Hair-waving apparatus of the kind in which a tress of hair wound on a curler is treated with steam, with or without the vapour of a hair - waving lotion, comprises a self-contained apparatus including a vaporizing chamber adapted to receive water, with or without a hair-waving lotion, and an electric heater adjacent thereto, the arrangement being such that after leaving the vaporizing chamber and before being led to the tube containing the curler, the vapour passes through a second chamber heated by the heater and is thus superheated. As shown, the heating coil h<2> is arranged in an annular chamber h<1> situated in a vapour-generating chamber f<1> and surrounding a superheating chamber g<1>. The chamber f<1> communicates with the chamber g<1> through a conduit g<3> to which the vapour is admitted through an orifice controlled by a port l<1> in a rotatable tube l. The superheating chamber g<1> communicates through a conduit g<2> with an annular chamber c formed between a tapering tube band the tube a adapted to receive the curler, the chamber c communicating at the lower end with the tube a which is provided at the upper end with an outlet pipe g passing through the superheating chamber g<1>. The tube b is provided with a collar b<1> which receives the upper end of a rubber sleeve the lower end of which is tied around the root of the tress of hair. The heating coil h<2> is mounted on a former h<3> carried by a removable plug h4, the chamber f<1> is closed by a cover carrying a safety-valve, and the upper part g<5> of the chamber g<1> is closed by a plug. In modifications, (1) the annular chamber c is replaced by one or more small tubes, and (2) the vapour is supplied to the upper end of the tube a instead of to the scalp end.
