Abstract

In a machine for dyeing &c. hanks or skeins and comprising several hank-carrying crates mounted on a rotatable frame, crates with square endframes are arranged side by side about and near the axis of the rotatable frame, the hanks, which in any crate are at right-angles to the hanks in adjacent crates, being thus disposed obliquely to their paths of motion. Square frames 2, Fig. 2, rotating in a bath 1 carry at each corner a cage 5 comprising U-section bars 6 each formed in one flange with notches 7, Fig. 3, for the reception of bars 8 on which the hanks are suspended. The notches 7 are alternately shallow or deep to facilitate circulation of the dye or other liquor and the rods 8 are secured in them by parallel rods 9 secured in cup-shaped members carried by the bars 6, the upper cup-shaped member having an open outer end closable by a clip 11 adapted to snap over a projection 13 on the member. The hanks M, Fig. 6, are secured loosely over the bars 8 and the cages are arranged as shown to ensure all the hanks entering the liquor in the same way. In securing the cages to the frames 2, a strap 15 on the frame embraces the spindle of the cage and one of its manipulating handles 14 and a wing nut 18 engages a hook 19 to retain the cage. Pivoted arms 22 having handles 25 serve to place the cages on or remove them from the frames 2.
