342,207. Toothbrushes and massage appliances. MITCHENER, J. R., 5, Half Moon Lane, Herne Hill, BRYANT, C. A., 40, Codrington Hill, Honor Oak Park, and CASANI, S., 90, Regent Street, all in London. March 26, 1930, No. 9675. [Class 19.] Brushes and massage appliances of the kind which are driven by an archimedian screw are characterized in that the reciprocating member 4, Fig. 1, comprises a tubular member the inner end 6 of which is flattened to conform to a flat strip-threaded member 7 for driving the brush &c. The outer end of the member 4 carries a ring 5 for hanging up the device when out of use. A threaded part 14 on the member 4 serves to secure it against rotation when desired. In this case the brush 11 may be used as a fixture. In other cases the brush 11 is rotated by reciprocation of the member 4. One end of the strip member 7 is pinned to an expandible chuck 8 closed by a cap 9 which retains a spindle 10 of the brush 11. A spoon-shaped guard 15 is provided, partly surrounding the brush. By substituting a rubber pad for the brush the device may be used for massaging the gums.
