[Class 109.] The cage of a " snake " type of rope stranding or closing machine comprises a series of discs a, a<1>, secured together to form alternate compartments for the bobbin supports b and for epicyclic gearing for rotating the bobbin supports. The epicyclic gearing is balanced, either by providing two planet gears arranged in the same plane and disposed at 180‹ with respect to the axis of the machine, or by having the planet gears of alternate sets of gearing displaced 180‹.
