Abstract

Cellulose acetate silk is sized by means of a water-soluble hydroxyalkylether of a carbohydrate obtainable by reacting on a carbohydrate with an alkylene oxide in the presence of an aqueous alkali. The size may be subsequently removed from the silk by treatment with water. In examples, cellulose acetate silk is immersed (1) in hydroxypropyl starch ether, and (2) in hydroxyethyl cellulose ether, the size being afterwards removed by agitating in water at 60 DEG C. without further additions.ALSO:Cellulose acetate silk is sized by means of a water-soluble hydroxyalkylether of a carbohydrate obtainable by reacting on a carbohydrate with an alkylene oxide in the presence of an aqueous alkali. The size may be subsequently removed from the silk by treatment with water. In examples, cellulose acetate silk is immersed in (1) hydroxypropyl starch ether, and (2) hydroxyethyl cellulose ether, the size being afterwards removed by agitating in water at 60 DEG C. without further additions.
