Abstract
340,714. Ordnance breech mechanism. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS, Ltd., Vickers House, Broadway, Westminster, LEE, H. W. and HAMPTON, E. R., of Vickers-Armstrongs, Elswick Works, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Nov. 14, 1929, No. 34864. [Class 92 (ii).] A hang-fire safety device for use with power - operated breech mechanism comprises an inertia-latch carried by the gun and adapted to engage a stop-member on a movable part of the power apparatus. In the form shown, the weighted latch B, pivoted to the gun at B<1> and controlled by a spring plunger B<2>, normally engages a stop D<1> on the movable power-cylinder D. On recoil in the direction of the arrow 2, the latch sets back and is retained by the engagement of its pivoted detent C with a fixed stop A<2> thus freeing the power-cylinder which moves in the direction of the arrow 1 to open the breech. The stop D<1> then engages the plunger C<4> to release the detent and enable the latch to return to its normal position when the breech is closed.
