340,226. Spectacles &c. EGLINTON, W. D., 100, Lower Addiscombe Road, Croydon. Sept. 18, 1929, No. 36984/30. Divided on 335,233 and addition to 339,290, [both in Class 97 (i), Optical systems &c.] [Class 97 (i).] A hinge for connecting the bridge to the eyepiece of folding spectacles &c. comprises a single chinier integral with the end of the bridge, another single chinier integral with a shaped fastening plate adapted to be secured to the rim of the eyepiece, and a shoulder integral with the fastening plate to limit the position of the eyepieces relative to the bridge when the spectacles are in open position. In Fig. 1 the chiniers 1 are formed at the ends of the bridge 2 and the chiniers 5 on plates 3 adapted to be secured to the rims by rivets passing through holes 4. A shoulder or stop 8 on the plate 3 co-operates with the chinier 1 to limit the opening of the spectacles. The hinge pivot passes through holes 6, 7 in the chiniers 1, 5. A stop may project from the chinier 1 to co-operate with a recess cut in the shoulder 8. In Fig. 4 both chiniers 1, 5 are circular and the bridge 2 is provided with a curved recess 12 to accommodate the chinier 5. The shoulder 8 abuts against the wall of the chinier 1 on one side only to form the limiting stop.
