Abstract

335,233. Eglinton, W. D. April 17, 1929. Spectacles.- The hinges of spectacle frames are constructed so that the chiniers occupy the thickness or part of the thickness of the fastening plates which are slotted or cut away to accommodate the inter-engaging chinier of the cooperating part of the hinge so that when folded together the plates of the hinge lie flat one upon the other. The fastening plates 1, 2, Fig. 1, have chiniers 3, 4 respectively integral with them and of substantially double the thickness of the plates. The flat sides of the plates 1, 2 are attached to the frame 7 by rivets 8 and turn on the pin 5 so as to fold down flat one upon the other. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, stop pieces 9, 10 are provided so that when the plates are attached to the spectacle parts the spring of the hinge is limited by such stop pieces. In further modifications the stop piece is only provided on one. part of the hinge and the fastening plates are made integral with the spectacle frames.
