Abstract

340,223. Printing-surfaces. FISHBURN, J. E., The Island, Uxbridge, Middlesex. Sept. 21, 1929, Nos. 28695 and 28993. [Class 100 (ii).] A rubber printing-surface 1 is mounted in a support 4 formed at one or both ends with a raised portion 6, which is of substantially the same level as the printing-surface 1, and is adapted to prevent detachment of the printing-surface 1 from its support owing to the pressure of inking or other rollers. As shown, the support 4 is formed with inclined ends 7 received by undercut ends of a recess provided in a forme cylinder 8, and the printing-surface 1 is similarly secured to the support 4, to which it is also preferably cemented. The underside of the support 4 is preferably curved and provided with ribs 9 to form a seating, and one side is preferably cut away at 10 to facilitate removal of the printing-surface 1. Printing-surfaces may be formed in the raised portions 6, but if the portions 6 are plain they may be arranged slightly lower than the printing-surface. The detachable support 4 may be replaced by a support integral with the forme cylinder provided with raised portions 6. The invention is also applicable to flat printing-surfaces.
