338,863. Frost, J. C. H. June 25, 1929. Separating by mechanical pickers.-In a potato planter means are provided for separating small potatoes and for picking up large potatoes and ejecting them. Endless belts A1 receive the potatoes from a hopper E, the opening of which is controlled by movable plates E1, E4 which allow small potatoes to fall into a trough E3, rubber agitating fingers being provided on the roller carrying the belts. The other potatoes are carried by the belts A1 between rotary discs B which are slightly flexible and have cupped or serrated edges. Rollers mounted on the machine press upon the discs and cause them to grip large potatoes between them and carry them upwards on to plates K3 which deliver them into receptacles on the table between the belts A1. The potatoes of medium size are carried onwards by the belts A1 to the planting apparatus.
