Abstract
338,057. Ellis, G. B., (Boehringer & Soehne, C. F.). Jan. 7, 1930. Fats, extracting by solvents. - Fats are extracted from natural materials also containing purine bases by means of liquid sulphur dioxide. The extraction may be effected in the cold or at a raised temperature, and the material may be preliminarily treated with another reagent, e.g. an alkali solution. In an example, cocoa is extracted with liquid sulphur dioxide in a rotatable pressure vessel at about 45‹ C., and the extract is filtered and cooled, yielding a solution of theobromine and caffeine and a layer of separated fat. The extraction is repeated several times preferably at a higher temperature, e.g. 100-105‹ C., and the extract is worked up in known manner.
