Electrodes.-An accumulator is provided between each pair of negative plates 2 with a group of two positive plates 3, 4 each having half the thickness of the negative plates. The positive plates are joined together and enclose a quantity of electrolyte which tends to remain at a maximum concentration. The electrolyte passes through the positive plates under the influence of hydrostatic and electro-osmotic pressures. Instead of the two separate positive plates a single hollow plate may be used which may contain an inert packing material, the walls of the plate having half the thickness of the negative plates.
