336,165. Strelitz, F. P. Dec. 16, 1929. Massage.-A face-massaging apparatus comprising a flat casing mounted resiliently on a handle is provided with means for maintaining the casing at a very low temperature. In Fig. 1, the casing 1 may be filled with a block of ice &c. and be then closed by a lid comprising plates 12, 13 enclosing a packing-ring 16 which is expanded against the casing by a nut 18 on a clamp screw 17. A beaded screw 19 keeps the nut in plane. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 2, liquefied carbonic acid may be supplied to a perforated pipe 6 surrounded by a gauze or other porous casing 10, whereby the casing 1 becomes charged with solid carbonic acid. Perforations 7 in the casing permit escape of evolved gas. The casing may be enclosed in cotton wool soaked in a mixture of witch-hazel and lavender water which may be held in place by butter muslin secured by a rubber band.
