Abstract
335,710. Fairweather, S. D. Sept. 4, 1929. Ankle and foot-arch supports.-A shoe, which is an improvement on that described in Specification 122,120, [Class 17 (ii), Boots and shoes, Construction of], for the prevention and cure of weak or flat feet is made so that the centre 9<1> of the wearer's heel, the ball of the foot, the pads 8 of the toes and the outer part of the sole, with the exception of the outer arch of the foot, are substantially coplanar and the upper 1 fits flexibly under the inner arch and conforms to the shape of a well-shaped foot arch and is sufficiently roomy over the anterior transverse arch 14 to allow the foot to be well flexed. A resilient pad 3 may be fitted to the sole under the three middle meta-tarso-phalangeal joints to assist in maintaining the anterior transverse arch. Extra lifts hollowed out at the centre may be fixed to give the appearance of a heel, or the heel may be hollowed' out on its inner face to present a cavity for the heel of the foot. The forepart of the sole is shaped to allow the big toe to occupy its normal position instead of being deflected outwards.
