Abstract

335,320. Brown, S. C. July 30, 1929. Disinfecting and deodorizing.-A device for disinfecting or deodorizing the air in sanitary closets, telephone boxes &c. and adapted to be mechanically operated comprises, a bellow or piston carrying in the casing thereof a pad or pads impregnated with a liquid or powdered disinfectant, or deodorizer. As shown in Fig. 1, a casing 1 carrying felt pads 6, 7 and attached bv a shackle 5 to a flush chain encloses a loosely fitting disc 10 to one or both sides of which is attached bellows 4 fixed also to the end cover or covers 2, 3. When a shackle 11 attached to the disc 10 is pulled to operate the flush the disc is lowered against a spring 8 and air forced through the pad 6, the rising of the disc on releasing the shackle forcing air through the pad 7. The bellows may be dispensed with if the disc is packed to form a piston. In a modified construction, the casing and disc are rendered unnecessary by connecting the covers 2, 3 by chains which become fully extended when the bellows are opened, and attaching a single bellows to the end covers. In Fig. 3, a bellows 22 carrying a pad 29 is operated by opening a door 21, and it may be arranged for operation when the door is being closed. This construction is also applicable to spring or weight-lifted seats of sanitary closets.
