Abstract

334,998. Dicker, S. G. S., (Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabricken). July 15, 1929. Vacuum tubes.- A gas - filled lamp giving positive column radiation, for use with alternating current of three or more phases, has a solid electron-emitting electrode and three or more anodes, the paths of the discharges coinciding. As shown, three anodes 10 of molybdenum or graphite are mounted in separate chambers leading to a common channel 1 in which the electron-emitting electrode 3 is mounted; or the anodes may be separated by screens. The electrode 3 consists of tungsten. or an alloy of thorium with tungsten or molybdenum, or a wehnelt. cathode ; it may be heated directly or indirectly, or by the discharge. The gas filling may be neon at a pressure of 0.5-5 mms. The anodes are connected the network through impedances such as inductive resistances 13, and the usual transformer may he omitted: or instead of using resistances in the anode circuit, a resistance may be connected in the cathode circuit.
