Abstract
334,924. British Celanese, Ltd., Bader, W., and Thomas, E. B. April 12, 1929. Methanol.-Zinc sulphide, alone or mixed with chromium oxide or other promoters, is used as catalyst in the synthesis of methanol from oxides of carbon and hydrogen at high temperatures and pressures. In an example, a solution of zinc and chromium nitrates (4zn : 1Cr) is precipitated by sodium sulphide, and the dried precipitate is employed for the reaction between carbon monoxide and hydrogen at 360-400‹ C. and 100 atmospheres pressure.
