334,857. White, A. E., (Kelly Graphite Mills, Inc.). June 5, 1929. Mould materials. - A parting-material for foundry moulds comprises a light insoluble precipitated alkaline earth carbonate or sulphate impregnated with a small percentage of a waterproofing material. The powder is placed in a mixer and heated, as by furnace gases to 200- 220‹ C. and 2 to 10 per cent of degras, lanolin, tallow or other grease, stearic or other fatty acid or an oil or a mixture thereof is added, preferably dissolved in kerosene, naphtha, gasolene &c. Wet precipitated carbonate or sulphate may be placed in the mixer, the solvent being omitted in this case. The mixture may be then cooled somewhat and ¢ to 7 per cent of kerosene or other solvent, containing if desired about 25 per cent of heavier hydrocarbons such as waste lubricating oils, is sprayed in while the mixer is still operating.
