Abstract
334,851. Hartley, C. J. April 10, 1929. Gravity-separation apparatus.-A settling tank for sewage is made square in cross-section at the top and provided with a conical base, the corners where the upper and lower portions meet being filled in with fillets of cement or the like. The sewage is brought through a pipe A to a, distributing, trough B in a central downtake passage C in the settling-tank. Clear liquid passes away over weir channels D and separated sludge is forced by the hydrostatic head, or drawn by pump suction, up a central tube G. The tube G is rotated on a foot-step W by worm or bevel gearing Rand carries arms H from which scrapers J are suspended, preferably by flexible hangers K. The sludge enters the tube G through apertures Y and passes out through apertures L into a fixed annular chamber M connected by a horizontal pipe N to a sludge well P. In a modification the tube G is open at the lower end. According to the Provisional Specification the tank may be circular or hexagonal and the sludge uptake pipe may be stationary, the scrapers being carried by a rotary shaft which passes downward through the uptake pipe. Specifications 2051/94, [Class 46, Filtering &c.] ; 6985/15; and 211,482, [Class 46, Filtering &c.], are referred to.
