Window gitards. - A guard for the opening between the sash and sill of a sliding window consists of one or more flexible strands of cable or the like 7 connected to the sill and passing over guides on the sash to a tensioning member 14 on the frame. The guides on the sash are preferably housed in a casing 11 and may consist of pulleys 10<a>, ... 10<c> for the cables extending to the sill, and 10<1>, 10<11> for guiding same to the tensioning member. The tensioning member 14 comprises a pulley 15 on a pivoted lever normally retained upright by a ring 18. The casing 11 is preferably secured to the sash by means of keyhole slots and pins &c. on the sash. A cover-plate 19 may be provided for the tensioning member on the frame.
