334,787. Churchill Machine Tool Co., Ltd., and Mawer, L. Nov. 18, 1929. Milling-lathes.-A machine for milling cams and other irregularly shaped articles comprises a swinging head a mounted by trunnions b on a bed c, and carrying a spindle d upon which is a master cam e held up to a fixed roller i by a weight so as to move the work to and from the milling-tool w. The work is carried by a chuck upon the spindle d, or between a centre g thereon and centre h. Keyed to the spindle d is a spur wheel j<1> having extended bosses to carry a frame k on ball bearings m, and the wheel j<1> is rotated by a driven pinion n on a shaft o mounted in the frame. The frame has a lug g to which is pivoted one end of a link r, the other end thereof being pivoted to the machine bed; the link and the head a thus form a parallel linkage system whereby movement of the head does not affect the angular speed of the work. The wheel j<1> has a projecting ring s thereon upon which a brake band t can be tightened by a bolt u and a nut v, the bolt being carried by the frame k so that the brake, which is provided to ensure a steady drive of the work, does not exert any restraint upon the free swinging of the head a.
