Abstract

334,523. Barnes. G. M., and McCann. G. M. May 31, 1929. Ordnance tubes - A gun is provided with a liner 6 formed of steel having a high elastic limit and having peripheral clearance, from the gun tube 5 at all points so that, on firing, it is free to undergo lateral and longitudinal expansion to avoid piling up of the metal at any point. The liner may have a tapered exterior, the interior of the gun tube being tapered to correspond. Bodily dislodgment of the liner is prevented by shoulders 8, 9, and a key 13 adjacent the ammunition chamber, and a detachable key 14 at the muzzle permits of axial expansion of the liner whilst preventing rotation.
