Abstract
334,315. Dunsheath, P. July 1, 1929. Squirting.-In the extrusion of lead or its alloys &c. to form a pipe or cable-sheath, molten metal is supplied to the space between two relatively rotatable concentric members h, a, one being provided with impelling parts or surfaces and the other with longitudinal ribs. The member a may be fixed in a lead container d which carries a casing b rotated by gearing g. The member h is mounted in the casing b and has a spiral groove which dies out towards the upper end. The ribs of the member a die out in the same way but later than the spiral. The member a carries a mandrel m which is adjacent to the die k in it's stationary support, j. The member h is cooled by water, oil, or air supplied through a pipe v and passages t. Lead &c. is supplied from a heated tank n to the container d which is heated by burners o so that the lead entering between the parts a, h is about 5‹ or 10‹ F. above its melting point.
