Abstract
450,188. Making steam generators. BOUCHIER, W. F. S., Ballantyne Welding Works, Ballantyne Road. Leith, Edinburgh. March 16, 1935, No. 8195 [Classes 83 (i) and 83 (ii)] Casting - machines ; moulds; cores.-A copper alloy boiler or like hollow body is cast under pressure in a multipart steel or other die with a frangible core 19. The sides 2 of the die are screwed together and the top 1 and bottorr 3 are clamped theretc by a frame 6, 7 and screw 10. The runner is formed by a grooved bar 11 clamped over a hole 13 by bars 12. The core 19 is supported by loose metal studs resting on the bottom 3 or by a previously cast part 20 which become incorporated in the casting. This is provided with openings by arranging tubes 15, preferably with screw threaded ends, in the cover 1, so as to abut the core. This may be grooved, to form internal fins, or have embodied flue pipes, the projecting ends of which become fused to the cast boiler The nozzle 14 is abutted closely against the spout of a melting pot and gas pressure is applied to the metal in the pot to force it into the mould. A boiler so cast may be tinned internally by electrolysis.
