Rotary scrapers.-In a ditching-machine where. in a cutting screw or screws is or are carried, together with the driving gear, by a frame adapted to be raised or lowered by screw-means, the screw-means is driven from the gearing by which the cutting-screw is rotated. ' The frame 1 of the apparatus is connected to a tractor by beams 2 and an adjustable stay 4 and is adjustably connected by a screw 14 and nut 13 to a cross-bar 11 suspended by springs 10 from a wheeled frame 8. The drive for the ditching- screw 7 is conveyed from the tractor through a coupling 16 and bevel gears 18, 19; loose gears 21, 22 are oppositely driven by the bevel gear 19 and either gear may be connected to their shaft 23 by a clutch 25 controlled by a handle 27, the shaft 23 driving the screw 14 through gearing 28, 29 so as to raise or lower the ditching-screw. The screw 14 may also be driven by a handle detachably engaging the end 30 of the shaft 23. Between the beams 2 and the tractor are provided means causing disengagement when the resistance exceeds a given limit.
