Abstract
414,144. Machines for working land. STOREY, N. C., 13, Leathley Road, Hunslet, Leeds. Feb. 3, 1933, No. 3373. [Class 6 (i).] A rotary tilling attachment for a tractor comprises earth-working tools mounted to be driven about axes slightly inclined to the vertical and mounted in a frame hinged to a wheeled main frame, a flexible draw-bar connection, a primary transmission shaft on the frame provided with means for driving it from the tractor, a secondary transmission shaft on the main frame, clutch devices interposed between the primary and secondary transmission shafts, an intermediate shaft on the hinged frame, a flexible coupling between the intermediate shaft and the secondary transmission shaft, gearing driven from the intermediate shaft for driving the tools, and means for lifting or lowering the hinged frame. The main frame 1 is mounted on two wheels 3 and is connected to arms projecting from the tractor 47 by a gimbal ring 50 and a connection 55 which allows it to rock about its longitudinal axis. The tool-carrying frame comprises side plates 15 and is hinged on the frame 1, springs 88 helping to support the weight. The rotary tools 43 are attached to rings 42 driven through the bevel and spur gearing shown from a shaft 34 universally jointed to a secondary transmission shaft 90 connected through a clutch 89 with the primary transmission shaft 59 which is connected through a jointed connection 60 with the power take-off shaft 61 of the tractor. The clutch 89 is operated through a lever 890, rod 891, double-ended lever 892, and ropes 893, 894. The direction of rotation of the tools may be reversed by reversing a shaft 32 carrying some of the bevel gearing. The tools are raised or lowered by tilting the tool frame by means of a screw 79 driven in either direction from the shaft 59 through clutches 63, 65 and the chain and spur gearing shown enclosed in the gear box 62. The clutch lever 69 is operated from the driver's seat by ropes fastened to a doubleended lever 71 connected by a rod 70 to the lever 69. Connected to the rod 70 is a rod 85 passing through an eye 84 on the trunnion nut 83 through which the screw 79 passes. When the tools reach their raised or lowered position the clutch lever is automatically moved into neutral position by engagement of the eye 84 with one or other of two collars 86, 87 on the rod 85.
