Water-waste preventers, disinfecting-apparatus for. - An appliance for automatically supplying disinfectant &c. to a flushing cistern or other tanks comprises a detachable chamber 1, the side walls of which are prolonged to form an open compression chamber 3, the air pressure in which controls the supply of disinfectant. The disinfectant is contained in the chamber 1 which is provided with a hole 5 fitted with a threaded tubular nozzle 6 closed by means of a threaded flanged stopper 7 and a leather washer 9. The chambers 1 and 3 communicate by means of a U-shaped pipe 11, one end 13 thereof being situated in a recess 10 in the stopper 7. The device is placed within the cistern etc.; when the latter is filled, the compression in the chamber 3 forces air through the pipe 11 into the chamber 1 so that disinfectant is discharged when the pressure is relieved by flushing. Modified stoppers for the hole 5 are shown in Figs. 12 and 21. In the former case, communication between the chambers is established by means of a passage 14 and the nozzle may be dispensed with. the projections 16 entering suitable slots and coacting with inclines in the bottom wall 4 of the container to make a tight joint by means of the washer 9. The form shown in Fig. 21 is adapted for use when the hole 5 is situated in the side wall of the container 1.
