Abstract

333,530. Brooke Bond India, Ltd., and Wood, C. May 13, 1929. Filling materials into paper and like bags.- Paper, linen, or parchmentized cloth bags are fed and opened in preparation for filling with tea &c. The bags 3, Fig. 1, are placed in a sector shaped holder 2, with closing flaps 3a to the rear, and are urged forward into engagement with clips or ledges 2<a>, 10, 11 by a presser foot 6 on a weighted bell-crank 5. A clip 13a retains the flap of the foremost bag while air jets, from nozzles 15<a>, 16, blow into the mouth of the bag to distend it as shown at 9<a>. The nozzle 15<a> is flattened to initiate the opening and the nozzle 16 assists in keeping the bag open. The bulging of the bag shown in Fig. 3 and the consequent lessening of the width causes it to be released firstly from the clip 11 so that it can be removed by the small end of a filling funnel (not shown) in the direction of the arrow 18. The air valve is geared with a revolving turret carrying the funnels, which are adapted to be tilted so as to enter the bags. The apparatus may be used in conjunction with those described in Specifications 333,528, and 333,529, [Class 106 (v), Measured quantities &c.].
