Abstract

333,400. Morton, J. W. Aug. 16, 1929. Lids and covers.-A cover more particularly for containers under pressure is provided with a dished plate 3 carrying a rod 2 passing through a central opening. A rubber ring 4 is supported between a rim 20 on the plate 3 and a rim 21 on the cover 1. The upper end of the rod 2 carries a handle 5 pivoted by a pin 6 passing eccentrically through the bosses 7, 8, so that on turning the handle the members 1, 3 are drawn together and the ring 4 is expanded radially into contact with a bush fitted into the mouth of a container. A circular rib 12 may be provided to retain the rubber ring. The rim 10<a> is provided with a number of slots 14 shaped so as to receive the heads of studs 15 carried by the cover, and to back the cover in position by a slight angular rotation. A valve for admitting gas, and a cock 17 for releasing it may be provided on the cover. To assist in correct positioning of the cover, an addition stud 18 may be provided, which engages in an open slot in the rim 10<a>. Modifications are referred to in which the cam device 7, 8, 5 is replaced bv a screw threaded through the cover, and in which the rubber ring is expanded inwardly into the closing position.
