P o t a t o harvesters. - A potato - top disintegrating machine for use in harvesting consists of beaters d, d<1> hinged to rods e of a framework attached to a shaft a, the beaters flying out radially when the shaft rotates and smashing the potato tops with their free ends. The beaters are of skeleton construction to diminish the air resistance and the inner beaters d' are shorter than the outer beaters d in order to operate evenly over the convex potato ridge. The machine may be mounted on a harvester or may be self-contained. The shaft a may be raised or lowered to bring the beaters into operation as desired, and it may be rotated by toothed or chain gearing from an axle of the apparatus.
