Washing-machines with means for circulating liquids.-A washing-machine comprises two containers A, B, of which the liquid spaces communicate with one another, for example, through a gap between the bottom of the casing 10 and an imperforate hollow partition 16 and the machine is provided with means for periodically varying the relative pressures above the liquid in each container, as by introducing compressed air alternately into the air space of each container, whereby an oscillating movement of the liquid is produced. The source of the compressed air may be the pressure side of a vacuum cleaner. Alternatively the air spaces may alternately be subjected to suction. Flap or other valves 25, 26 in the chamber 19 communicating with the supply pipe 20 from the cleaner 21 are operated by floats 34, 35 and a detent mechanism 39, 41 is provided to render the floats inoperative until a predetermined pressure is exerted. Operation of the valves admits the compressed air in the containers A, B alternately through apertures 23, 24 respectively. 'The gap beneath the partition 16 may be partially closed by a perforated extension of the partition to prevent movement of the clothes from one container to the other. Each float mechanism may be housed in a separate chamber formed within the hollow partition, each chamber communicating with one of the containers A, B. Additional liquid circulating devices may be provided.
