Mercury-arc rectifier apparatus, arrangements of.-Mercury-arc rectifiers are protected by an overload relay so designed that the current value at which it will operate is dependent not only on the load itself but also on the temperature of the. rectifier. The tripping current is lower when the temperature is below normal to suit the low load-carrying capacity of the rectifier when it is relatively cool. The relay may be provided with two settings in conjunction with a thermal switch on the rectifier which switches in the lower setting coil when the temperature of the rectifier falls below a certain value. Alternatively, two relays with different settings may be used and one or other switched on, in accordance with the temperature of the rectifier.
