Abstract

331,938. Quick, C. G., and Ball, D. A. April 17, 1929. Inking-apparatus. - A device for reciprocating an ink-distributing roller axially consists of a collar 3, Figs. 1 and 4, loose upon the shaft '1 of the roller and provided with a groove 9 to receive an actuating pin 14, the collar being provided with lubricating passages so arranged as to cause an automatic circulation of lubricant as the roller rotates. The collar 3, preferably provided with a bush 4, is mounted between a shoulder on the shaft 1 and a collar 5, tapering recesses 13, 8 being formed at the ends of the collar. The groove 9 communicates with a passage 10 having side passages 11, and a passage 12 in the bush 4 leads to the reduced portion 2 of the shaft 1. Lubricant is introduced into the passage 10 through the groove 9 and, during the rotation of the roller, is drawn through the passage 12, passes to the ends of the bush 4 and is thence drawn up and passes through the passages 11 back to the passage 10. The pin 14 is carried by an arm 16 actuated by an eccentric 20 and slotted arm 19.
