Traversers and turntables, electrical; wheel stops.-A traverser for transferring railway vehicles to angular or parallel tracks has lateral supports moving with the traverser but no central support, the centre of movement of the track at any moment being offset from the centre line. In Fig. 1, the traverser 1 has a track 2 and an offset pivot 6 with wheels 4, balls, rollers, or slides engaging rails or guides 29 in the pit B. The wheels and rails may be toothed and electrically-driven by separate motors run at appropriate speeds. The pivot may be replaced by end guides engaging guide rails in the pit. The traverser may have wheel stops 11, Figs. 4 and 5, connected to a shaft 8 operated by a lever 7, the shaft 8 being also connected to a. stop 15 engaging holes 16 in the pit so that the traverser cannot be removed until the wheel stops are in place. The traverser also carries a. stop 17, Fig. 1, actuated by a lever 22 and engaging holes 26 in ramps 25 to align the traverser with the connecting tracks 28. Fig. 13 shows another pivoted traverser, while Fig. 18 shows a guided traverser wherein the connecting rails may be at rightangles. Two or more traversers may be connected to a common pivot, Fig. 12.
