Abstract

331,143. Hume Steel, Ltd., and Halkyard, C. C. Sept. 23, 1929. Centrifugal machines.-Apparatus of the kind described in Specification 329,284 in which pipes or moulds are rotated by resting in bights in the upper runs of endless belts, are modified by replacing the long continuous belt by a series of overlapping shorter belts. In the present construction, a series of parallel shafts 6 - - 6<c> are employed, the shaft 6 being fitted with fast and loose pulleys 9, cone change-speed pulley 8 and brake drum 21 to act as the driving member. Belts 12 connect the shaft 6 with the shaft 6<a> and support the first tube or mould 13 in a bight which can be adjusted by the pulley 16. A second pair of belts 12<a>, out of line with the first pair, connect shafts 6<a> and 6b and another pair 12b connect shafts 6b and 6<c>. The working of the apparatus can be made more elastic by fitting clutches on the various shafts so that any number of pipes or moulds can be rotated while the rest are stationary. The pairs of adjacent pulleys on the intermediate shafts may be replaced by one broad pulley. Flanged collars 26 co-operate with stops 27 to prevent excessive end movement of the pipes or moulds, while contact members 28 impart a vibrating motion to the moulds while rotating.
