273,065. Wharrad, L. A., Haines, L. M., and Knowles, H. H. May 25, 1926. Needles, pins, and the like, surfacing; agitating articles for polishing by mutual rubbing.- Xeedles, pins, &c. to be scoured are made up in a packet d, which is rolled by at least three rollers having substantially parallel axes spaced around the packet, one at least of the rollers being mounted so as to be capable of unrestrained universal floating movement within predetermined limits, the packet, during rolling assuming an elliptical form in cross section. Fig. 1 shows a construction in which the packet is supported by two rollers a, b, and a third roller e, which may be weighted, is the free roller and is connected to the roller b by a belt f which engages a part of the packet. In Fig. 2, five rollers are used, the rollers g, h supporting the packet and the rollers i, j, k being the free rollers, which are carried by links l; four rollers may be employed, two of which are supported by links, or the free rollers may be supported by spring means on the plungers of a hydraulic suspension. The shafts of the free rollers may be mounted on the links by ball joints, or may be carried loosely in slots. The Provisional Specification describes a construction wherein the free roller at each end is mounted on bearing discs carried by the links and smaller than the inner diameter of the roller, and wherein the packet is removed by means of a flexible sheet associated with the lower roller a; or an arcuate metal shield may be employed.
