Abstract

330,663. Blair, Campbell, & McLean, Ltd., and Hutchin, S. March 20, 1929. Stationary moulding-machines; moulding pulp.-Wet pulp is dried for use as a filtering-medium in a press the casing of which is fitted with an upper perforated plate and a movable perforated plate connected to a hydraulic ram, the lower part of the casing being connected to a pump or other source of suction. Wet pulp is charged on to a perforated plate f surrounding a central fixed pillar i in a casing c. The plate f rests on a skeleton frame k carried by a sleeve and an hydraulic ram b. Separating screens n, n<1> are placed on the first charge of pulp and a second charge above the screens. The cover of the casing which comprises a perforated plate e and a skeleton frame l is then closed. The hydraulic ram is operated and the pulp pressed to extract water which drains off through a pipe g'. Suction is subsequently applied through a pipe g<2> to the space below the plate f and air is drawn through the pulp to dry it. An intercepting device, such as described in Specification 273,857, [Class 125 (ii), Bottles &c., Filling &c.], may be connected to the pipe g<2> to prevent water from reaching the suction pump. According to the Provisional Specification, the space above the upper perforated plate may be connected to suction.
