Percussive drills.-In rock drills wherein the distribution is effected by an oscillating plate valve, the cut-off is effected in an intermediate position of the valve to provide expansive working, and is earlier for the forward end than for the rear end of the cylinder. The valve h is housed between plates Y, Z in the cylinder bore J. The drill ratchet L is housed behind the valve-chest, and the back cylinder head contains a supply valve T and a reservoir X. The chest comprises a reduced portion c, and an enlargement, The part c slidably engages the wings k, o of the valve, and the shoulders p, q effect the cut-off. The rearward shoulders are in the same transverse plane; the seat s is penpendicular to the tool axis, and the seat r is inclined to give different cut-off for the two ends of the tool. The valve is reversed by compression and suction.
