Abstract
288,242. Ingersoll-Rand Co., (Assignees of Hulshizer, G. W.). April 6, 1927, [Convention date]. Percussive drills.-The piston chamber B has an annular recess C at its front end, and an intermediate recess D connected to the rear end by passages E. An inlet plug P is mounted in the rear of the tool and is provided with ports S connected by external passages T. A hammer piston U reciprocates in the chamber B and is provided with a head V, a rearward extension W, annular grooves Z, b connected by passages Y, and a central, rearwardly open bore X which slides on the plug P and is constantly exposed to fluid pressure. An exhaust port is provided at F. In the position shown, the pressure fluid passes through the plug passage R, ports S, passages T, Y, recess D, and passages E to the rear end of the cylinder and drives the piston forward. When the passages Y enter the recess C, the piston overruns the port F, fluid pressure is supplied to the forward end of chamber B and exhausted from the rear end. The piston motion is thereby reversed.
