Percussive drills.- The distributing- valve f of a percussive drill is housed in a chamber z formed between a cylinder end washer H and a plate W which forms a seat for the head L of the rifle bar. The valve which surrounds the bar, is rotated by a ratchet P, has opposed flat surfaces p, o and tapered ends, and is reversible end for end and upside down. It engages raised seats x, y around the inlet passages c, d, and its flat sides are slightly reduced to provide clearance for the supply fluid. The pointsu, v of the valve act as fulcra upon which it turns to effect the distribution and it is reversed by the compression when the piston C passes the exhaust port D and by the suction created by the passage of the supply fluid over its edge. A hollow throttle valve S with a port T is arranged in the back head R.
