Abstract
330,113. Corrie, J. B. May 14, 1929. Boring; turning.-An axle box, or other heavy piece of work, after being placed on its cradle 13 by a hoist &c. 42 with the aid of rollers 12 on an extension of the machine, frame, may be finely adjusted vertically and accurately located and clamped horizontally. A wedge 17 is slotted to receive the similarlv inclined under face of the cradle 13, and through an arm 21 carrying a lug 22 engages a helical groove in a drum 24. rotatable through gearing by a hand wheel 33, thereby effecting vertical adjustment of the work. An indicator 28<1> may be used to denote its position. Removably fitted around the cradle 13 is a frame 19, frames of different sizes being used to accommodate different sizes of work. One side of the frame is slotted to receive a wedge 34, the other side having a flange 20 carrying dowel pins to engage holes in the side of the table. A flange of the axle box is placed against the wedge 34 and the clearance between the other flange and the frame 19 is taken up on urging forward the wedge by a pinion engaging a rack 35 thereon. Clamping is effected by a clamp of any suitable construction carried on an arm 41.
