Window appliances and fittings for exteriors of buildings.-In a fireescape of the kind in which an endless or other chain passes ,over a chain-wheel which drives a centrifugal brake, the chain wheel 4 is mounted coaxially with the centrifugal brake 13, and is. arranged between the brake and the gearing 8 - - 11 by means of which the wheel drives the brake. The brake is keyed to a shaft 12 which passes through the chain wheel. The mechanism is mounted in a carrier which may be suspended by a hook 16 and comprises two castings 1, 2 spaced by distance blocks 5. The chain runs are guided through suitably-shaped holes in a pair of these blocks. A semi-circular guard 15 prevents the chain 7 from leaving the chain-wheel. The brake consists of a spider 13 carrying slidably the brake elements 14. The gear wheels 9, 10 are carried from a block 17, which is fixed to the castings 2 after the gears have been located in proper position.
