Abstract
329,939. Chemieverfahren-Ges. Nov. 28, 1928, [Convention date]. Magnesium phosphate; potassium nitrate.-A process for producing potassium nitrate with the simultaneous production of dimagnesium phosphate is characterized by decomposing crude phosphate with nitric acid, and potassium sulphate, and adding to the solution obtained bv the removal of gypsum, magnesium carbonate, hydroxide or oxide, or a mixture or compound of these to such an extent that the bulk of the phosphate is precipitated as pure, crystalline dimagnesium phosphate. The remaining solution containing, say, 1 per cent phosphorus pentoxide is treated with more magnesium carbonate to precipitate completely the phosphoric acid as trimagnesium phosphate, which may subsequently be used to precipitate dimagnesium phosphate, Potassium nitrate is obtained from the resulting solution by evaporation and cooling, or by cooling alone.
