Abstract

329,493. Hall, C. P., and Hough, T. May 4, 1929. Magnetic instruments.-Relates to an electromagnetic driving unit for a loud-speaker of the kind in which an elongated or strip-like armature 11 embraced by a coil or coils 5 and resiliently supported at its ends, has each end disposed in a gap between a pair of opposed pole shoes 18 on a permanent magnet or magnets 7, 8, each opposed pair of pole shoes being of opposed polarity, while the polarity of those diagonally situated is the same, the armature being adapted to vibrate bodily in the direction of length of the rod 9 connecting it with the diaphragm. According to the invention, the armature is supported by transverse blade or plate springs 13 carried by brackets 14 which can be adjusted to centre the armature in the air gaps either by a common adjusting means or separately by the spring controlled screws 15 carried by the base plate 6. In order to enable the tension of the springs 13 to he adjusted, one end of each spring is fixed on the end of a pillar 16 mounted in a hole in its respective bracket with sufficient clearance to allow it to be moved sideways by an adjusting screw 17, the other end of each spring being fixed to its bracket14. The coils 5 are mounted in grooves 2 in a frame 1 comprising a central portion 8 and flanges 4, the armature extending through an aperture in the frame as shown in Fig. 2 and the rod 9 passing through an aperture 10 in the portion 3.
