Manures.- In preparing carbamates as described in Specification 328,005, [Class 1 (iii) Oxides &c., Metallic], by reaction of carbon dioxide upon solutions of metal salts in liquid ammonia, the carbamate is not separated but the whole reaction mixture is evaporated to obtain mixtures of salts suitable for use as fertilizers. The mixtures may be heated alone or with water or ammonia under pressure and additional fertilizing ingredients may be added. In examples, (1) potassium nitrate is added to liquid ammonia, carbon dioxide is passed in, and the ammonia evaporated, leaving as residue a mixture of potassium carbamate and ammonium nitrate. Ammonium phosphate may be added before the evaporation. The mixture may be heated under pressure with ammonia., or, according to the Provisional Specification, with alcohol, to obtain a mixture of ammonium nitrate, urea, and potassium carbonate, (2) Crystallized calcium chloride is dissolved in Diver's liquid (liquid ammonia containing ammonium nitrate) and gases from a lime furnace passed in.
