Frictional machines.-Lustre effect is produced on textile fabric by drying it by passage over heated rollers G, H, J; charging it electrostatically by passage over insulated heated rollers E, F, rotating at a speed different from that of the fabric; and then submitting the fabric to hot calendering or pressing as by passage between jute rollers B, C heated by heated steel rollers A, D. The rollers E, F may be covered with vulcanite &c. Insulating plates L and heaters M may be provided on each side of the fabric to prevent discharge of the fabric before being calendered. Instead of the electrostatic charge being produced frictionally, it may be applied by conduction to the fabric from an external source.
