Abstract

327,312. Triggs, W. W., (Ingersoll-Rand Co.). April 29, 1929. Surface condensers.-In a condenser comprising straight tubes between headers, the penetration of steam at the colder ends of the tubes is facilitated by the provision of steam lanes decreasing in size from the colder to the hotter end of the condenser. A casing A having a steam inlet Band a.n outlet C for air and condensate has an inlet water box D and outlet water box E. The water tubes at the cool end adjacent to the inlet D are spaced in parallel vertical banks, as in Fig. 3, forming steam lanes ; at the hot end, alternate tubes G in the vertical banks are staggered so as to decrease the size of the steam lanes, as in Fig. 1.
